Growing, private-equity-backed, clean technology firm is seeking a talented Entry-Level Wastewater Engineer with a strong academic background and interest in design, construction, and operation of biological wastewater treatment systems for industrial applications. The role includes development and implementation of proprietary industrial products and exposure to designing and managing projects with a thorough understanding of biological wastewater treatment processes, instrumentation and controls, and wastewater tank fabrication processes. Typical Duties:

  • Contributes to  technical content related to the design of biological wastewater treatment products
  • Coordinates product development activities, interfaces with and manages partners, and leads a small team of engineers and technologists on a project-specific basis
  • Participates in wastewater treatment projects from the inquiry stage through design, construction, and commissioning with clear and articulate written and verbal communications
  • Maintains focused execution while utilizing site-specific data and industry best practices
  • Works in partnership with purchasing, sourcing, and manufacturing to develop innovative solutions and product improvements
  • Participates in hands-on construction and operation of wastewater treatment systems and demo-scale facilities
  • Provides quantitative technical/economic analysis of process designs to optimize efficiency and reduce costs
  • Provides critical input to resolve process/integration concerns related to design, manufacturing, and fabrication
  • Occasionally travels to pilot sites to manage and review results of pilot systems

The Right Stuff:

  • BS Degree in Engineering – chemical, biological, or environmental preferred
  • Aptitude with Process Flow Diagrams, P&IDs, CAD drafting, and other engineering tools
  • Internship experience in biological wastewater treatment processes, preferably in the water and wastewater industry or in the food and beverage industry, isa plus
  • Academic exposure to anaerobic treatment processes, particularly suspended biomass processes (e.g. UASB, EGSG, IC, etc.)
  • Familiarity with principals of membrane bioreactor design and operation
  • Interest in learning project management including writing proposals, supervision of teams, and participation in management of scope, schedule, and budget
  • Experience developing PFDs, P&IDs, and mass balances
  • Experience developing hydraulic profiles, pump and blower selection, piping system design, and instrumentation selection
  • Experience writing feasibility studies, including evaluations of options and performing cost estimates
  • Ability to work in a cross-functional team environment
  • Understanding of basic fabrication techniques
  • Stellar written and verbal communication skills
  • Must exhibit strong leadership ability and have a professional demeanor
  • Ability to deliver on multiple priorities in a fast-paced work environment
  • Must be a strong problem solver with the ability to think logically and rationally
  • High attention to detail

  • Local candidates preferred; currently we are not offering relocation

Working Environment:

  • This position will normally work a typical schedule of Monday to Friday. Must be able to work weekends and/or holidays to meet business needs
  • Must adhere to all federal, state, local, and company safety procedures and policies including wearing appropriate PPE
  • May have to travel from your primary office to customer sites
  • May work outside in varying temperatures
  • Must be able to occasionally lift 50 pounds
  • The work environment is informal, team-oriented, and collaborative
